Type 2 diabetes is a chronic condition similar to type 1 diabetes wherein a child’s body becomes resistant to the effects of insulin or when a child’s body produces insufficient amounts of insulin to regulate a normal blood sugar level. This condition affects the way our body metabolizes sugar or glucose. Unfortunately, there is no known cure yet for type 2 diabetes in children, however, parents can resort to several ways of maintenance in order to help their child manage the condition. Parents should let their child eat healthy foods, get plenty of exercise and regulate a healthy weight. Also, the child may need oral medication or insulin treatment to regulate his or her blood sugar.
